From the SPL to you

The Student Programme Leaders (SPL) from NUS High have a special note for the participants of the Endeavour Track.

A warm welcome to all joining us in Singapore for the Singapore International Mathematics and Computational Challenge (SIMC 2.0) 2024! We are students of NUS High and are ready to welcome and take care of you!

This experience will be unforgettable as we interact and establish ties with one another through our shared passion for mathematics and computing.

To have a general idea of what is to come, please find below an overview of the activities for the five days and the programmes we have planned for you.

Arrival of teams at Singapore Changi Airport, 18 /19 May (Saturday and Sunday)

You will be picked up at the arrival hall in Changi Airport by our friendly Student Programme Liaisons (SPL), and a bus will bring you to your accommodations at NUS University Town (UTown) Residential College 4. The SPLs will be your buddies in school during SIMC.

Day 1: 20 May 2024 (Monday)

In the morning, after attendance-taking, we will walk over to NUS High School (NUSH) from UTown. All meals will be at the NUSH canteen. After breakfast, there will be a SIMC programme briefing and Opening Ceremony. After lunch, the AI Learning Festival will be held, followed by a workshop for the Endeavour track participants conducted by our Chief Setter. Right after, we will proceed with a guided tour of the school and icebreaker games around the NUS High School campus. If you wish to get comfortable during the games, pack a change of casual clothes. We will close off the day with dinner and walk back to UTown Residential College 4. Please familiarise yourself with the route, as you will be walking over with your educators starting on Tuesday.

Day 2: 21 May 2024 (Tuesday)

This is the day when the Challenge will be released online in the morning, right after your breakfast. The rest of the day will be dedicated to solving the Challenge in your designated rooms or at your convenience.

Day 3: 22 May 2024 (Wednesday)

The day will start as usual with a morning assembly and breakfast. You will prepare for the Challenge in the morning and submit the challenge report online shortly after lunch. After the submission, you may use the rest of the afternoon to prepare for your Oral Presentations.

Day 4: 23 May 2024 (Thursday)

This is the final countdown to the Challenge! You will have the morning to prepare for the challenge oral presentation. Before lunch, you will report to the auditorium for a briefing, and oral presentations will begin after lunch. After your oral presentations end, we have prepared a programme for you to relax and have fun! You will be given some time to return to your dormitories to change into the SIMC T-shirt given to you in the welcome pack. After this, we will head off in buses to places of heritage around Singapore for a cultural learning journey. You will have dinner at your respective learning journey sites with your SPLs. Please bring along the umbrella given in our welcome pack in case it rains! You can also bring along some local currency to purchase souvenirs at these places.

Day 5: 24 May 2024 (Friday)

This day is dedicated to FUN! You will be given the morning to go on self-guided visits around Singapore, and we will provide a guide to exciting places to visit. You will have lunch outside, too, so check out our local delicacies! Following a short break in the afternoon, you will head to NUSH Auditorium for the Closing Ceremony. You can be dressed in traditional attire or your school uniform. The day will end with a farewell dinner, where you may then change to a semi-formal outfit or remain in your traditional attire/school uniform. There will be a performance segment where your team may choose to perform during the dinner. If you wish to perform, please indicate via this link by 15 May 2024 (Wednesday). https://tinyurl.com/simc2k24dinnerperf.

Departure of teams (Depending on your flight)

Time to say your goodbyes when your SPLs send you off at Changi Airport. This will be the time for you to take some last-minute photos and selfies to treasure and preserve your special memories of the SIMC journey. Keep in touch!
