Singapore International Mathematical and Computational Challenge

The Singapore International Mathematical and Computational Challenge (SIMC2.0) is the successor to the Singapore International Mathematics Challenge (SIMC), a biennial international mathematical modelling competition organised by NUS High School of Mathematics and Science in collaboration with Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE). The inaugural SIMC was held in 2008.

The inaugural SIMC2.0 was held online in November 2022, and in May 2024, it was conducted in-person, with 27 schools from 24 countries and regions taking part.

Since 2008 Biennial competition NUS High School × MOE 27 schools · 24 countries in 2024

Like SIMC2.0 2024, SIMC2.0 2026 will have two tracks — Explore and Endeavour — each tailored to a distinct age group and focus area.

Explore Track
Local · Sec 1–3

A focused, hands-on introduction to Artificial Intelligence Robotics. Participants design AI-driven solutions to real-world problems, culminating in a final showcase.

Endeavour Track
International · Ages 16–18

A mathematical and computational modelling challenge open to schools worldwide. Encourages interdisciplinary thinking by applying mathematics and computing to real-world problems.

The Explore Track is a focused and dynamic event under the Singapore International Mathematical and Computational Challenge (SIMC2.0). Designed specifically for local Secondary 1–3 school students, this track offers an intensive, hands-on introduction to Artificial Intelligence Robotics.

Participants will work in their school team to design AI-driven solutions for real-world problems in a supportive yet authentic environment, culminating in a final showcase.

The Endeavour Track is a mathematical and computational modelling challenge. Open to schools worldwide for students aged 16–18 years old, or studying the equivalent of Grades 10–12, the challenge aims to promote interdisciplinary thinking by encouraging participants to apply mathematics and computing to real-world problems.

Since 2022, the challenge was adapted to better meet the learning needs of today’s students through the inclusion of computational modelling.

SIMC 2.0 Logo

The SIMC logo is made up of 4 cubes and a prominent red dot — each element carrying deliberate mathematical and cultural meaning.

  • The Cube — the basic mathematical construct for mapping the physical world. Representing measurable units and logical planes, it embodies human logic and intelligence. Quantifiable, yet infinite and boundless — a quality which reflects the wonderment and mystery of mathematical exploration.
  • Four Cubes — etched on the edges of the four stereographic cubes is the acronym SIMC. Keen eyes may observe that the letter ‘M’ is in fact a sigma sign ‘?’ that has undergone a ninety-degree clockwise transformation.
  • Multi-coloured Faces — the multi-coloured faces of the cubes represent the life and vibrancy that SIMC participants, who hail from various parts of the world, bring to the event.
  • The Red Dot — on the top face of the second cube, the red dot represents Singapore and her key role in organising this international Challenge. Singapore, a humble yet united and confident nation, is often represented as a little red dot on the world map.

Aptly, the theme for SIMC is Experior. Expono. Excedo. — or E3, as we affectionately refer to it.

E1
Experior
Experience

That all participants will experience the very best of the Singapore education landscape, particularly within the discipline of mathematics.

E2
Expono
Expound

A vibrant celebration of mathematical ingenuity, where prodigious talents expound creative and imaginative solutions to baffling mathematical conundrums.

E3
Excedo
Exceed

That SIMC would exceed all potential in spurring gifted minds to exceed themselves in the realm of practical mathematical invention and inventiveness.
