From the SPL to you

The Student Programme Leaders (SPL) from NUS High have a special note for the participants of the Endeavour Track.

A warm welcome to all joining us in Singapore for the Singapore International Mathematics and Computational Challenge (SIMC 2.0) 2024!  This experience will be unforgettable as we interact and establish ties with one another through our shared passion for mathematics and computing.

To have a general idea of what is to come, please find below an overview of the activities for the five days and the programmes we have planned for you.

In the morning, you will be picked up at the NUS High Concourse by our friendly Student Programme Liaisons (SPL). The SPLs will be your buddies in school during SIMC. After attendance-taking, there will be a SIMC programme briefing and Opening Ceremony. After lunch, there will be a poster viewing session of the Explore track posters, followed by a workshop for the Endeavour track participants conducted by our Chief Setter. Right after, we will proceed with a guided tour of the school and icebreaker games around the NUS High School campus. If you wish to get comfortable during the games, pack a change of casual clothes.

Day 2: 21 May 2024 (Tuesday)

This is the day the Challenge will be released online in the morning. The rest of the day will be dedicated to solving the Challenge in your designated rooms or at your convenience.

Day 3: 22 May 2024 (Wednesday)

You will prepare for the Challenge in the morning and submit the challenge report online shortly after lunch. After the submission, you may use the rest of the afternoon to prepare for your Oral Presentations.

Day 4: 23 May 2024 (Thursday)

This is the final countdown to the Challenge! You will have the morning to prepare for the challenge oral presentation. Before lunch, you will report to the NUSH auditorium for a briefing, and oral presentations will begin after lunch.

Day 5: 24 May 2024 (Friday)

The programme for the day starts in the afternoon. You will head to NUSH Auditorium for the Closing Ceremony. You can be dressed in traditional attire or your school uniform. The day will end with a farewell dinner, where you may then change to a semi-formal outfit or remain in your ethnic attire/school uniform.

Important things to bring:

(Note: You will be given a welcome bag that contains a water bottle, a foldable umbrella and a travel adaptor for use in Singapore.)

  1. Materials for the Challenge (Laptops and chargers, stationery)
  2. Huge smiles and uplifted spirits 😀

We thank you for participating in SIMC. On behalf of the staff and students at NUS High, we look forward to experiencing, expounding, and exceeding with all of you.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip to Singapore, and we will see you soon!

Sincerely,
Colin, Darin and Xin Kai
