NUS High School of Mathematics and Science
Host School · Singapore
The NUS High School of Mathematics and Science is an independent, specialised co-educational school that offers its own six-year diploma programme. Established in 2005 by the Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE) and the National University of Singapore (NUS), the school aims to nurture future-ready Pioneers, Humanitarians and Innovators.
The school logo shows the emphasis of mathematics and science in this specialised school. The test tube represents the sciences and the symbol pi represents mathematics. The third element — the spark — represents the dynamism, energy and innovation when the two disciplines are brought together.
Students are admitted to the school in Year 1 (13 years old) or Year 3 (15 years old) after a rigorous selection process comprising tests and group activities in which they are assessed for their understanding and passion in mathematics and the sciences.
Our school’s 6-year programme attracts the top 10% of Singapore’s national cohort of primary school students. Currently, the student population stands at around 1,000 students.
The school offers a rich and broad-based curriculum in mathematics, the sciences, humanities, the languages and the arts. The specialised math and science curriculum is underpinned by creative teaching to inspire and challenge talented young minds that are passionate in these disciplines.
The school’s affective and character education programme is responsible for developing socially responsible leaders who are committed to contributing towards the betterment of society. The curriculum is accredited by MOE and NUS, with English as the medium of instruction. Upon successful completion of the six-year programme, students graduate with the NUS High School Diploma, recognised by local and renowned overseas universities.
To complement the core curriculum, the school runs special programmes:
- Da Vinci Programme (Research, Innovation & Enterprise)
- Socrates Programme (English Language, Literature & Humanities)
- Aesthetics Appreciation Programme (Music and Art)
- EINSTEIN+ (Talent Development)
- Galileo Programme (Space Satellite Programme)
- Internationalisation Programme
