The NUS High School of Mathematics and Science is an independent, specialised co-educational school that offers its own six-year diploma programme. Established in 2005 by the Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE) and the National University of Singapore (NUS), the school aims to nurture future-ready Pioneers, Humanitarians and Innovators.
The school logo shows the emphasis of mathematics and science in this specialized school with the test tube representing the sciences and the symbol pi representing mathematics. The third element in the school logo is the spark, which represents the dynamism, energy and innovation when the two disciplines are brought together.
Our Students

Vision, Mission, Values and Motto
Students are admitted to the school in Year 1 (13 years old) or Year 3 (15 years old) after a rigorous selection process comprising tests and group activities in which they are assessed for their understanding and passion in mathematics and the sciences. Our school’s 6-year programme attracts the top 10% of Singapore’s national cohort of primary school students. Currently, the student population stands at around 1,000 students.

Our Curriculum
The school offers a rich and broad-based curriculum in mathematics, the sciences, humanities, the languages and the arts. The specialised math and science curriculum is underpinned by creative teaching to inspire and challenge talented young minds that are passionate in these disciplines. The school’s affective and character education programme is responsible for developing socially responsible leaders who are committed to contribute towards the betterment of society. The school’s curriculum is accredited by MOE and NUS and the medium of instruction is English. Upon successful completion of the six-year programme, students graduate with the NUS High School Diploma. The Diploma is recognised by local and renowned overseas universities.
To complement the core curriculum, the school runs special programmes to develop the talent and passion of students in different subjects and to cultivate 21st century competencies.

Co-curricular Activities (CCA) Programme
Student development takes place in a safe and nurturing environment that is student-centric and values-driven. Besides an effective teacher mentoring programme, students are engaged in community involvement projects and leadership programmes. All students will take up at least one co-curricular activity (CCA) in school. The school offers 24 CCAs that span the Sports, Performing Arts, Uniformed Groups and Clubs & Societies.
